Experience Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary Day or Night

The main attraction of the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary has, for over 60 years, been the twice daily feeding of the Rainbow Lorikeets. This multi-colored parrot is unique, only existing in a few places outside of Australia.

Feeding mainly on fruit, pollen and nectar, the birds were, at one time, a pest to a local beekeeper and gardener, Alex Griffiths. But, instead of harming the birds, he began to feed them, far away from his prized blooms. Over the years, they have learned to return to the park for their twice daily feeding.

All of the park revenue is reinvested back into the park. Griffiths gifted the park to the people of Queensland and it continues to be held in a national trust.

The income from admission fees and donations allows the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary to feed and care for injured animals. Behind the scenes that the tourists see is a large veterinary clinic, with numerous volunteers and employees.

In addition to the lorikeets, there are a number of other species unique to Australia, including koala, Tasmanian devils and a saltwater crocodile. A reptile house, aviary and miniature railway complete the attractions. It is a popular destination for kids and grown-ups, alike.

In recent years, the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary has coupled with the Green Challenge Adventure Park. It is a nature-based adventure experience woven in the treetops of the rainforest canopy.

There is a beginner’s, two intermediate courses and an “Extreme Green” challenge. The courses are recommended for physically fit adults and children taller than 160cm from heels to outstretched fingers.

All necessary equipment and safety instructions are provided. If you are looking for a team-building challenge for your employees, consider the Green Challenge.

They’ll love it. It’s challenging and exhilarating, but also fun. Tickets can be ordered online at a discount.

In addition to the day trips, there are nighttime tours, too. A wild night ticket includes a buffet dinner, which is served at 5:30 pm and the adventure tour starts at 6:45 sharp.

What can you see in the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary after dark? You will see traditional aboriginal dances and listen to the music and culture of the Aborigines.

You’ll meet the koalas and hand feed the kangaroos. You will see the Tasmanian Devils when they are most active, at night.

Day or night, the park has plenty to offer. On most days, you are allowed to tour the animal hospital and see which animals your ticket price is helping to care for.

The Wild-laugh film festival is held each December and guarantees 100% laughter. There are numerous competitions for the kids, including animal naming and colouring activities.

Children under the age of 4 are always free. The regular price for adult tickets is $44. 17 year olds and younger kids get in for $26. $9 discounts apply for seniors and students from around the world. Just bring your ID to get the reduced price.

If all of that is not enough, the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary now hosts a weekly farmer’s market, too. So, you can eat right, have fun and support the environment in one great location
